The 16 pieces of PIANO FOUR HANDS are intended as a continuation of the very first five pieces of four hands from Textbook 1. The 4 pieces of TWO PIANOS with which the textbook ends are of a slightly more difficult level. Pieces for four hands are a first form of playing together that students really enjoy. At the same time, the pupils encourage each other to reach the same level. Switching places at the piano is also refreshing because the roles of accompanist (usually the left player) and melody player (usually the right player) are reversed, which is also psychologically and musically an important factor in playing together. The pieces are by well-known composers and music educators: Anton Bruckner, Fritz Emonts, Carl Gänschals, Peter Heilbut, W.A. Mozart, Lajos Pap, Franz Schubert, Käthe Volkart-Schlager, Fritz Spindler and Igor Stravinsky Arrangements by Susan Schmitt and Carl Gänschals of pieces by Joseph Haydn, Adolph Jensen and Gaetano Donizetti. The pieces for two pianos are by Béla Bartók from his didactic collection Microcosmos.
